“페미니스트 티셔츠 되게 좋아요. 사람들과 친해질 때 드는 경제적인 비용이 줄어들어요. 사람하고 친밀해지기 위해서는 어떤 가치관이 맞아야 하잖아요? 근데 이걸 입으니까 그런 게 되게 편해졌어요. 일단 입으면 전투력이 상승하고. (웃음) 내가 페미니스트라는 걸 설명할 필요가 없잖아요. 안녕?하고 딱 보면 알잖아요. 그러니 상대방이 자기가 알아서 주의해서 말하게 되고. 그런 효과가 되게 좋았어요.
저는 사람들을 불편하게 만드는 그게 좋아요. 물론 뚫어져라 쳐다보면 기분은 나쁘지만, 그래도 옛날에는 페미니스트라고 하면 사람들이 가지고 있는 편견이나 차별이 있으니까 내 정체성을 숨겨야 했잖아요. 그게 바로 편견이나 차별이라는 것을 오히려 이 사람들한테 알리고 싶었어요. 페미니스트가 왜? 그럼 그 사람들은 할 말이 없잖아요. 뭐 그런 효과를 노린 것도 있어요.”
“I like this feminist t-shirt. It helps reduce economical costs when I get closer to people. To become friends with someone, you have to share similar values. When I wear this, it makes it a lot easier to socialise in that manner. Just wearing it makes me feel stronger. (Laugh) You don’t need to explain to anyone that you’re a feminist. You just say ‘hi’ and that person immediately recognises. It makes some more attentive to what they’re saying in front of me. I like that effect a lot.
I enjoy making people feel uncomfortable. Of course when they stare it’s unpleasant. But in the recent past you had to hide the fact that you’re a feminist because so many people were biased toward that kind of belief. Now I want people to recognise their own prejudice. What’s wrong with feminists? Usually they don’t have anything to say. This shirt helps me in that way.”
