President Park Geunhye unveils the details of her three-year economic plan at the presidential office of Cheongwadae as she marks her first year in office.

On February 25, President Park Geunhye pledged to create 1.5 million jobs for women.

As she revealed her three-year economic plan, President Park Geunhye highlighted that her administration will create 1.5 million jobs for women to promote their participation in economic activities in accordance with their life cycle.

According to President Park, “The plan is to ensure that talented women are guaranteed access to the labor market despite childbirth and child care.”

“The key to sustainable economic growth is the utilization of female workers. As long as we succeed in resolving the negative effects of the employment discontinuity of women, we might be able to utilize more women workers, about 10% more than before,” emphasized President Park.

Park added “Starting next year, the government will expand child care services according to different types of employment. Also, more employment insurance benefits will be offered so that irregular female employees and women working in small businesses can easily take child-care leave. Also, we are planning to encourage employees to take child-care leave and reduce working week for child care reasons. To that end, we have to hire more contingent workers and provide incentives to companies that make use of the contingent workforce.”

In a detailed explanation about the initiative, Park said “Full-time employees who have to cut back working hours due to childbirth, child care, and nursing are given the right to apply for a part-time position and return to their original status. At the same time, my administration will ensure that hourly and part-time employees are given prior opportunities so that they can be promoted to full-time status."

“Furthermore, when the three-year plan is implemented successfully, women can be protected from career discontinuity. To be more specific, women will be able to achieve a work-life balance in a stable manner when customized child care services are provided. In addition, each family will be freed from the burden of household debt and housing expenses,” Park added.
