On the 7th, President Park Geun-hye declared that she would “create a Korea where no woman has to suffer from career interruption due to childbirth and childrearing.”

“Until now, many policies focused on supporting women who already experience career interruption to return to the job market,” explained President Park at the Cabinet meeting.

She stressed, “I will make sure no woman will have to suffer from the same problem again. I hope to achieve that goal by linking existing policies closely together with a firm determination.

Park’s such remarks came after Cho Yoon-sun, Minister of Gender Equality and Family, reported “The results and future plans on comprehensive management of women’s policies and substantiating control.”

“No matter how strong the chain may be, there is a weak point that’s easy to break. That’s where we can focus our efforts so that Korea becomes a country where everything circulates smoothly, enabling women to fulfill their potential as much as they want without having to suffer from career interruption. It will benefit both women and the country as a whole," explained Park.

As the first female president, Park has emphasized the need to end career interruptions many times. At the first press conference of the new year, held in Chunchu-gwan in Cheongwadae (The Blue House), Park stressed the importance of addressing issues such as college entrance exams, employment, housing, childcare, and post-retirement life – the so-called 5 insecurity factors – saying “I will make sure no woman will have to suffer from the same problem again.”
