Forum Invites World Renowned Feminist Activists, Scholars

The domestic and foreign moderators and presenters of the Forum include internationally recognized activists and theorists who have given themselves to promoting the rights and interests of women in the Third World. Twelve of them are from abroad.

1Malalai JOYA, a field activist of women's human rights of Afghanistan, was elected as the youngest member of the Afghani Parliament in 2005. JOYA won the 2006 Gwangju Prize for Human Rights. 2Mukhtar MAI, a women's rights activist of Pakistan, established a human rights school. She was a victim of sexual violence by a group of men. 3Zohra Andi BASO is a women's rights activist and journalist from Indonesia.

Among politicians, 4DOI Takako, who used to head the House of Councilors of the Japanese National Diet, and served as the chairman of the Social Democratic Party, participates in the Forum, as well as 5Sumiko SHIMIZU, a former member of the Japanese House of Representatives (Social Demo-cratic Party), and who accused Japan of past crimes. 6Nuala AHERN, a former member of the European Parliament (EP), is an anti-nuclear activist.

The composition of participants from academia is diverse, from women's studies to psychoanalysis. 7Ada E. YONATH, prof. of genetics at the Weizmann Institute of Science, is regarded in Israel as a candidate for the Nobel Prize for medicine. 8Dr. Ruchama MARTON, president & founder of Physicians for Human Rights in Israel, won a number of international human rights prizes. 9Beate Rudolf, prof. of international law at Freie Universitat Berlin, Germany, is a vice chairwoman of the European Association of Woman Jurists.

Among the group of professors of women's studies participating in the Forum are 10Eva RATHGEBER, prof. of women's studies at the University of Ottawa/Carleton University, and who has studied the development of Africa for over 20 years, 11Naomi GOLDENBERG, prof. of religious studies at the University of Ottawa, who studies the correlation among feminism, religion, and psychoanalysis, and 12Mary CONDREN, lecturer at the Centre for Gender and Women's Studies at Trinity College of Dublin, has written many books on feminism.

Among the Koreans on the panel are : 13LEE Yun-Sook, co-representative of The Bell Park of World Peace Project, 14YOON Hyung-Sook, president of the Korea Association of Women's Studies, 15CHANG Pil-Wha, prof. of women’s studies at Ewha Womens University, KIM Hyun-Mee, prof. of so-ciology at Yonsei Univer-sity, LEE Woo-Young, prof. of North Korean Studies, HAN Kuk-yum, and chief of the Korea Immigrant Women Organization, 16SHIN Hei-Soo, member of CEDAW Human Rights Commission of Korea, 17PARK Inn-Hea, Rep. of Korea Women's Hot Line United, KIM Eun-Kyung, Rep. of Jeonbuk Women's Associations United, and YOON Mee-Hyang, Rep. of the Korean Council for Women Drafted for Military Sexual Slavery by Japan.
