Chang Mi Ran (aged 18, Wonju Technical High), the rising star of Korean women'sweightlifting, swept the gold medals in the clean and jerk lift and the overall record at the 6thAsian Junior Women's Weightlifting Championships in Nanjing on April 10, ousting China, the traditional weightlifting world champion.

Chang broke the Korean record of 145kg that she herself had set in November, topping it up by 2kg. She left China's Chou Wu Peng 2.5kg behind, clinching the gold medal. She also struck gold in the overall record, tying with the Korean record of 252.5kg (set by Moon KyongAe).

Chang achieved the unprecedented feat of snatching the gold medals from China only two years and four months since her debut, drawing all the more attention to her triumph. The young lifter commented that she put more 'weight' on the fact that she had broken her own record than the gold medals she had won.
